Secrets Revealed

I have had secrets that only the Lord knew about – or so I thought. There are people who somehow find out things that appear to be secret. I live in a small town and secrets are not very well kept. It seems sometimes that everybody knows everybody as well as everybody’s business.  There are multiple levels of secrets – the kind that are work related or trade secrets. There are some “gossip secrets” that are spread around because they are secret.

One of the Israelites violated the command of the Lord and kept some things from Jericho. Out over a hundred thousand warriors, his secret sin wasn’t a secret from the Lord. Check this out….

1 But Israel violated the instructions about the things set apart for the Lord. A man named Achan had stolen some of these dedicated things, so the Lord was very angry with the Israelites. Achan was the son of Carmi, a descendant of Zimri son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah.

19 Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, by telling the truth. Make your confession and tell me what you have done. Don’t hide it from me.”

20 Achan replied, “It is true! I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel. 21 Among the plunder I saw a beautiful robe from Babylon, 200 silver coins, and a bar of gold weighing more than a pound. I wanted them so much that I took them. They are hidden in the ground beneath my tent, with the silver buried deeper than the rest.” (Joshua 7:1, 19-20 NLT)

Just to be clear – there are no secrets from the Lord. Secret stealing, secret lies, secret relationships – the Lord KNOWS ALL.  The fact that the Lord knows all about me sometimes keeps me on track with my decisions. It’s an accountability factor for me. There are consequences for secrets that I think are hidden from the Lord.

I was reminded that my mom used to remind me that “my sins would find me out”. She meant that things done in secret would be brought to the light.

I have some conversations of repentance before the Lord because He knows all that I do and say. He even knows my secret thoughts. I’m often embarrassed that I have those thoughts. I’m amazed at His Grace because I know me and I’m not sure I would be as patient with me as The Lord is.

My secrets are not hidden from the Lord, but He doesn’t run His mouth about the secrets that I’ve repented of. He is working on my heart to purify me, because my thoughts and activities of my day come from my heart.

Pressing On!
