Scandal

I have seen my share of scandals, and some were significantly more harmful than others. A scandal is an action or event regarded as morally or legally wrong and causing public outrage. Often scandals are secret, and it takes years to discover.  There are scandals going on right now in multiple areas of our everyday lives that we don’t know about yet. From local government to our federal government, scandals are rampant in our lives.

When Jesus rose from the dead a scandal was orchestrated to detract from the significance of that event.  Jesus was like no other teacher/rabbi that the religious leaders and Romans had ever seen. They tried to deflect from the miracle of the resurrection. Check this out….

11 As the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and told the leading priests what had happened. 12 A meeting with the elders was called, and they decided to give the soldiers a large bribe. 13 They told the soldiers, “You must say, ‘Jesus’ disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body.’ 14 If the governor hears about it, we’ll stand up for you so you won’t get in trouble.” 15 So the guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say. Their story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today. (Matthew 28:11-15 NLT)

Scandals involve deceit.

Scandals involve “spin”.

Scandals involve bold lies.

Scandals involve scheming.

Scandals are usually exposed by truth.

Scandals often appear as harmless and innocent. Scandals can also be simple. Scandals can be super complex with lies upon lies.

I don’t want my life to ever be entangled in a scandal. I want to live an honest, honorable, and open life. I want to be the same person wherever I am. I want any accusations regarding who I am and what I stand for to be dismissed with the truth of how I live my life.

The scandal of the religious leaders and guards regarding Jesus’ resurrection has been exposed for what it is for many years. I want the light of truth to chase the darkness of scandal away from any part of my life.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
