Saved & Safe

Cardboard figures of the family on a white background. The symbol of unity and happiness. Hands gently hug the family.I’ve heard horror stories of people who have been robbed or held at gunpoint who are then later saved by the police. I’m sure that there are others who are not saved – they are shot or fatally injured. I remember a time several years ago when I almost drowned before being pulled to safety in a boat. I remember what it’s like to think you might not live through this. I remember thinking that I had done my best to honor the Lord and if it was time for me to leave this earth, I was ready. An incident like that made me appreciate the life I have. I can simply look around and see the suffering and struggle of others and realize how grateful I should be that I am saved and I’m safe.

The Lord doesn’t guarantee my safety, but He does promise that I’m saved. My safety is part of the temporary existence here on earth, while being saved is more relative to my eternal destination.

Jesus, the Son of God, came and ushered in a new system that replaced the old system with priests and high priests who were human like everyone else. Jesus came as a human, but conquered death and lives in the eternal realm beyond this life. Check this out….

18 Yes, the old requirement about the priesthood was set aside because it was weak and useless. 19 For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

23 There were many priests under the old system, for death prevented them from remaining in office. 24 But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever.25 Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. (Hebrews 7:18-19; 23-25 NLT)

I have access to Jesus, Son of God every minute of every day. He is with me now even as I write. He is with me in the middle of struggle. He is with me in the celebration of success. He is ALWAYS with me. He never forgets to meet with me. He never takes a break from me. He is here to stay. I can’t always wrap my head around an eternal being, because everyone I know and interact with here are earth are only here for a certain number of years. This life while it has lasted over 56 years for me, it is still very short compared to eternity.

Jesus, Son of God

You came down, from heaven’s throne
This earth You formed, was not your home
A love like this, the world had never known
A crown of thorns, to mock your name
Forgiveness fell upon Your face
A love like this, the world had never known

On the altar of our praise
Let there be no higher name
Jesus Son of God
You laid down your perfect life
You are the sacrifice
Jesus son of God
You are Jesus son of God

You took our sin
You bore our shame
You rose to life
You defeated the grave
And a love like this, the world has never known
