Room In My Heart

I have learned over the years that there are only so many people I can know at one time.  When social media became a thing, I reconnected with lots of people from my past – people I went to high school and college with. It was great. I do occasionally connect with some of those friends from past. The friends I spend the most time with are my current friends. I’m thankful for deep friendship.  There is only 24 hours in each day and 7 days in each week. There is a finite amount of space in my life.

I want to manage carefully the space in my life. I want my family and closest friends to have priority. I also want my extended friends and family to connect with me. At some point, we all reach the limits of our ability to maintain and I suspect the most “distant friends” fall off first.

Jesus is speaking to some of the Pharisees and His followers about His Father. This teaching is resonating with some and going sideways with the others. Check this out….

31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

33 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?”

34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. 37 Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message (John 8:31-37 NLT)

This one line jumped into my lap this morning – Is there room in my heart for Jesus?

Is there room in my heart for His Message?

I have control over what goes into my heart.

I have control over my schedule on most days.

I have control over where I go.

I have control over who I connect with.

I want to make room in my heart for more of Jesus. He has been in my life and in my heart for years. I often let other people or ideas consume too much room in my heart. I want to clear out space for the Lord to move and work in me. I want to make room in my schedule for more of Jesus.

Jesus is the Son of God. He leads me. He saved me. He is for me. He has changed me. It is my goal to display His heart because of His home in my heart. I want to represent Him well.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
