Reverent Fear

There are a lot things that I have a healthy fear of. I am not afraid of heights per se, but I respect heights. Gravity is real when you fall from a ladder or up high. I also have a healthy respect for storms. I like to watch up close, but I know when to take shelter from the storm. I also have respect or a reverent fear for those is positions of authority. There are people who are placed in authority over me by being elected or by going through proper training to protect and serve. I’m using the words “reverent fear” somewhat synonymous with “healthy respect”.

I think the Lord commands a “healthy respect” or “reverent fear” as I follow Him. I like the words “reverent fear” with Him, because of Who He is. He is Creator. He is All Powerful.

The Psalmist is challenging those who lead to have a “reverent fear” of God. Check this out….

10 Now then, you kings, act wisely!
Be warned, you rulers of the earth!
11 Serve the Lord with reverent fear,
and rejoice with trembling. (Psalm 2:10-11 NLT)

This is not the type of fear where I’m scared. It’s a healthy respect for the One Who holds the world in His hand. I don’t want to be flippant or disrespectful to Him. I want to approach Him with total respect and awe.

The more time I spend with the Lord, the more I grow in my love and respect for Him. His Presence in my life has given me a healthy perspective toward others. He also had helped me become more aware of Who He is and all the He is doing. I want to point Him out to others. I talk to Him daily. I seek His heart every day because of my reverent fear of Him.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
