Renew

Business man relaxing having power nap outdoors with computer laptopThis word carries with it a lot of “continuation” type meanings. It can mean resume, reestablish, repeat, refresh, extend. Some of these words imply “picking up where you left off”, while others imply starting over with a clean slate. I definitely think of the word “refresh” when I hear the word “renew”. It seems like a fresh beginning at times while holding on to some of the past. Isaiah spoke into the lives of many who had rebelled and turned from God. Check this out….

10 You wearied yourself by such going about,
but you would not say, “It is hopeless.”
You found renewal of your strength,
and so you did not faint.
11 ‘Whom have you so dreaded and feared
that you have not been true to me,
and have neither remembered me
    nor taken this to heart?
Is it not because I have long been silent
that you do not fear me?
12 I will expose your righteousness and your works,
and they will not benefit you.
13 When you cry out for help,
let your collection of idols save you!
The wind will carry all of them off,
a mere breath will blow them away.
But whoever takes refuge in me
    will inherit the land
and possess my holy mountain. (Isaiah 57:10-13 NIV)

I need to renew my commitment to the Lord each day. There are so many distractions that catch my attention. I can find myself weary and wandering from Him. I really want to pursue His heart every day even when others might not notice or know. He knows my heart like no one else. He knows when my heart wanders off or is infected by sin. I am learning to take my refuge in Him and renew my commitment to Him daily. He renews my heart. He restores my soul. He rearranges my heart. He renews my Hope.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
