Remain

I am on the go a good bit in my normal everyday job. There are days that I’m hardly at the office at all, because I’m out meeting people or looking at property. There are days when my vehicle never moves once I park in the morning. There is a danger is going hard all the time. I can become some busy doing that I’m not carving out enough time for “being”.  If I am visiting with someone in my office, in their home or wherever we meet up, I want to be present with them. I was reminded of the Lord’s Presence and His leadership this morning.

The people of Israel came out of Egypt and crossed the Red Sea on dry land and then the water swallowed up the Egyptian army – they were free from slavery. The Lord directed them to the foot of Mt. Sinai. Moses was given specific instructions as to how they should live, worship and travel. The Lord gave specific plans and directions for their worship with the Tabernacle (tent) as the focal point of God’s Presence. After finally finishing the Tabernacle, they set it up for their first worship event. Check this out….

34 Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle. 35 Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle.

36 Now whenever the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it. 37 But if the cloud did not rise, they remained where they were until it lifted. (Exodus 40:34-37 NLT)

I have been pondering and marinating this word “Presence” all year long. I desire the Presence of God to be in me and with me at all times. I want to move when He leads me. I want to stay when He tells me. When it’s “go time”, I usually like to “vet that” with the Lord. If I’m not going, I will remain until He prompts me to go. Remaining still doesn’t always mean I’m not growing, learning or doing. There are times some of my best progress happens when I’m simply remaining still in His Presence. I don’t always have to go to make progress. I would rather remain with the Lord than to do busy work that means nothing and accomplishes nothing. The Lord doesn’t do anything by accident, so when He prompts me to remain, I know He’s up to something!

Pressing On!
