Refuge & Stronghold

protected houseI kind of know what each of these mean, but I decided to look up the definition of each.

Refuge: a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger or trouble.

Stronghold: a place that has been fortified so as to protect it against attack.

The Lord is my Refuge & Stronghold – He is for me and He is with me.

The prophet Joel was reassuring the people of Israel that the Lord would keep them and protect them. Check this out…

14 Multitudes, multitudes

    in the valley of decision!

For the day of the Lord is near

    in the valley of decision.

15 The sun and moon will be darkened,

and the stars no longer shine.

16 The Lord will roar from Zion

    and thunder from Jerusalem;

the earth and the heavens will tremble.

But the Lord will be a refuge for his people,

a stronghold for the people of Israel.

17 ‘Then you will know that I, the Lord your God,

dwell in Zion, my holy hill. (Joel 3:14-17a NIV)

As I walk through this journey of life, I need His Protection. I need to know that He is a Place of Refuge.

He provides direction.

He provides protection.

He provides peace.

I know that when this life is over, He will walk with me into eternity. He provides the abundant life here on earth and eternal life in heaven. There is nothing that I need that He can’t provide. I trust His provision and His protection.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
