Ready To Move

I work in a service business called Real Estate. I help people purchase a home, sell their current house, or sometimes both! It’s exciting and can be quite stressful. Simply packing up everything you own so that it can be moved is a lot of work in itself.  I’ve seen people plan to move and try to do it on their own and get overwhelmed and stressed out quickly.  Moving takes careful planning and execution to go smoothly. It just doesn’t happen easily or quickly without preparation and planning.

The Lord was giving moving instructions to the Levite clan of the Israelite family. This family was tasked with moving the entire tabernacle and all of its furnishings. They were given very specific instructions how to pack things up and even how to carry them. Check this out…..

15 “After Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy furnishings and all the holy articles, and when the camp is ready to move, only then are the Kohathites to come and do the carrying. But they must not touch the holy things or they will die. The Kohathites are to carry those things that are in the tent of meeting.

46 So Moses, Aaron and the leaders of Israel counted all the Levites by their clans and families. 47 All the men from thirty to fifty years of age who came to do the work of serving and carrying the tent of meeting 48 numbered 8,580. 49 At the Lord’s command through Moses, each was assigned his work and told what to carry. (Numbers 4:15,46-49a NLT)

I made note that the camp didn’t move out until the sacred things of God were ready to move. The Israelites were now a nation and were being led by Jehovah God. They were not “on their own”, they had divine leadership. Actually, I have divine leadership today – everyone who calls themselves a Jesus follower, has a Divine Leader. When Jesus left this earth just days after His death, He promised a Comforter, a Presence to be with us and in us. The Holy Spirit prompts us, leads us and directs us to go where the Father wants us to go. He gives detailed instructions regarding when, where and how. He sometimes doesn’t give us the whole plan until we’ve acted on the part He’s given us first.

Moving is hard because we become comfortable where we are.

Moving is hard because we become attached to things that we think we own.

Moving is hard because of the time needed to prepare and plan.

Moving is hard because it can be physically and emotionally exhausting.

Moving is hard because it can require lots of minor decisions – “Should I keep this or give it away?”

God will sometimes move me to check on my dependence upon Him. He often asked me to move just to make sure I’m still surrendered to His Leadership in my life. I love where I live, and I really don’t want to move from my current home. My family was home for Thanksgiving and we connect a lot of memories to our home and where we live. I could live lots of places, but I love where I live because of the lives that have become intertwined with mine. I want to listen to the Lord as He leads me. I want to be prepared to make a move when the Lord directs me. I’m following His lead – I plan to be wherever He wants me to be. I’m moving to Him and with Him.

Pressing On!
