Quickly

I can move very fast when I want to. I’ve been accused of moving a bit fast anyway. I usually know where I’m going or where I want to go and I’m deliberate about getting there.  I will confess that there have been times in my speed, I’ve made mistakes. When I move super-fast, I don’t always take the necessary time to assess the situation from multiple angles.

As I read the story again of the people of Israel’s great sin against God the word “quickly” jumped off the page. Moses was on the mountain getting the written covenant from God on stone tablets (aka 10 Commandments) and the people seemed to have lost their minds. They got Aaron to make them a golden calf that they began to worship. Check this out…

The Lord told Moses, “Quick! Go down the mountain! Your people whom you brought from the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. How quickly they have turned away from the way I commanded them to live! They have melted down gold and made a calf, and they have bowed down and sacrificed to it. They are saying, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.’” (Exodus 32:7-8 NLT)

I have turned away from the Lord too quickly too. It’s easy for me to condemn the people of Israel for quickly turning from the Lord, but I’ve done it too many times to count.

God has done amazing things for me in my life-long journey with Him.

He has rescued me too many times to count.

He has blessed me with His Favor.

He has counseled me.

He has held me when I was in deep pain.

He has given me Grace and Mercy when I deserved punishment.

I want to quickly return to the Lord – quicker that I fall away from Him.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
