Protection & Surveillance
Our law enforcement personnel wear special vests to protect themselves. They also carry weapons to protect themselves and the people they serve. Most police have the motto: “Protect & Serve”. I’ve met people who despise nearly all law enforcement. I think it’s largely because they are rebels and don’t really respect the law of the land anyway. I have received my share of “safe driving awards” (aka speeding tickets) from the law enforcement and I deserved most all of them. I am profoundly grateful for the men and women who serve in our local law enforcement working to keep us safe from wicked and careless people. They also keep us safe from ourselves.
The Lord is called our Protector in scripture. He is Creator of all. He is everywhere. He knows everything. I’ve met people who thought they “knew it all”, but the Lord really does. Nothing escapes Him. King David, again, brings proper perspective to us about God providing safety for His kids. Check this out….
1 I trust in the Lord for protection.
So why do you say to me,
“Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety!
2 The wicked are stringing their bows
and fitting their arrows on the bowstrings.
They shoot from the shadows
at those whose hearts are right.
3 The foundations of law and order have collapsed.
What can the righteous do?”
4 But the Lord is in his holy Temple;
the Lord still rules from heaven.
He watches everyone closely,
examining every person on earth.
5 The Lord examines both the righteous and the wicked.
He hates those who love violence.(Psalm 11:1-5 NLT)
If my heart is right before the Lord, then I have a target on me. There are people who want to see me fail. There are others who want me to succeed. At the end of the day and at the end of my life, I really want what the Lord wants. I want to live out my life with my heart wholly devoted and trusting in Him every step of the way. I’m not too worried about the potential target, because the Lord is my Protection.
I imagine how I’d live my life is there was video surveillance everywhere. If all that I say is being recorded somewhere. If everything I do is being broadcast, then I need to make good and wise choices. The Lord is watching me. The Lord is listening to me. He is watching and listening NOT to condemn, but to protect. He wants to help my heart grow and expand making more room for Him to live there.
