Presence Brings Blessing

It is so cool to be in the presence of someone who is a great person. I have had the privilege of being around some great people. The strong leaders whom I’ve been around are mostly humble and kind. There have been some leaders who were arrogant and full of themselves. I think I would have loved meeting King David. He strikes me as a leader who was humble and kind. I think it was his perspective on the Powerful Presence of God that kept his attitude in check.

I’m picking up the story of the rise of David as King of Israel. He sends for the Ark of the Covenant, which represents the Presence of God. His intentions were to bring it to Jerusalem. The Lord had some very specific rules, regulations and protocol when dealing with the ark. One of the men moving the ark touch it to steady it when the oxen stumbled and he was struck dead on the spot. This freaked out everyone, including David. Check this out….

David was now afraid of the Lord, and he asked, “How can I ever bring the Ark of the Lord back into my care?” 10 So David decided not to move the Ark of the Lord into the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-edom of Gath.11 The Ark of the Lord remained there in Obed-edom’s house for three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and his entire household.

12 Then King David was told, “The Lord has blessed Obed-edom’s household and everything he has because of the Ark of God.” So David went there and brought the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with a great celebration. (2 Samuel 6:9-12 NLT)

I noticed that while the Ark was at Obed-edom’s house, he and his entire household was blessed. I believe the Presence of God brings blessing. I believe the Presence of God brings peace.

Now that I have the privilege of having the Holy Spirit of God inside me, I can expect blessing from His Presence. I’m not a “name it, claim it” guy. I don’t think that is scriptural. I do believe that the blessing of God comes upon me as I welcome the Presence of God in my heart.  I think it’s important to note that He didn’t promise His Presence will bring prosperity. I can look back on my life so far and count blessing after blessing because of the Lord’s Presence in me.  I am so humbled and thankful.  I know there is more to come!

Pressing On!
