Prepared

I like to get up early and get prepared for the day ahead. I like to face each day with some level of preparation. Even if I’m going on vacation, I like preparing and planning.  In a few minutes, I’ll prepare breakfast. We prepared for this last weekend when we went to the grocery store and purchased items to be used for breakfast.

I don’t mind some surprises, but I like being prepared and ready for what is next.  I’m not really a “prepper” either. I do like to look ahead into the days, months and even years. I’m trusting the Lord to know the number of my days. I simply want to honor Him with preparation for each day walking with Him.

The book of Mark opens with the story of Jesus which began years before. God had been preparing to send His Son. I think God had been preparing for Jesus to come to earth long before He came. The prophets told of the preparation. Check this out….

1 The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

“I will send my messenger ahead of you,
    who will prepare your way”—
“a voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
    make straight paths for him.’”

And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. (Mark 1:1-4 NLT)

I’ve been a follower of Jesus since I was in third grade. There have been seasons when I was more deliberate about following Him than others. I believe following Jesus takes daily preparation. I’ve learned than if I don’t plan to pray and study His Word, other tasks will take over my day and crowd out my time with Him.

The reason I like to start my day before the Lord is because I feel like it’s the most important part of my day. I also feel like the Lord walks with me throughout my day. I want to connect with the Lord before I connect with anyone else. I’m more prepared for my day when I start the day with the Lord.

Pressing On!
