Prediction

One man between past and future.I remember in 1988 that a man predicted that the Lord was coming back on a specific date – I think it was September 8 or close to that. He gained some traction in the news media and he was convinced that Jesus was coming back and we were all going to be ushered into eternity. I remember that my children were very small and I gave it some thought but I had my doubts. I remember learning that the simplest way to tell if a person is a prophet if what they predict actually comes true. Zechariah was actually a prophet because he starts preparing the people that Jesus is coming. Check this out….

1‘Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you,’ declares the Lord. 11 ‘Many nations will be joined with the Lord in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you. 12 The Lord will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem. 13 Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.’ (Zechariah 2:10-13 NIV)

I have no idea how lots of things in the future will turn out. I don’t know who will win the 2015 World Series. I don’t know who will be our next President. There are a lot of unknowns about what will happen next. Rather than predict the future, I want to spend my time and energy preparing for it. I believe the Lord holds my future in His hands and I trust Him with it. He’s the only One with actual control over the future. I believe that He’s more than capable of holding on to me throughout any circumstance I face now or in the future. I don’t have to look very far to see Him holding on to me in the past. To a lot of people, my faith doesn’t make sense, but it makes perfect sense to me because I know first hand of the Lord touch on my life. I trust Him with all the predictions about the future because I know He’s holding that too!

Pressing On!
