Planting Seeds – Part 2

The first step in planting seeds is preparing the soil. There is a lot to know about being a good gardener. It’s important to study weather patterns and seasons. There are fertilizer options that spur the growth. (The fertilizer options are where organic versus chemically induced growth comes into play.) The farmer must know how deep to plan the seed. The farmer must keep the weeds out so that the plant can absorb all the nutrients and moisture from the soil. The weed will suck the life out of the soil and then they crowd out the plant.

Jesus explained His parable of soils to His followers. He explains that the seed is critical, but so is the soil. Check this out….

14 The farmer plants seed by taking God’s word to others. 15 The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message, only to have Satan come at once and take it away. 16 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. 17 But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word.18 The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word, 19 but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced. 20 And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” (Mark 4:14-20 NLT)

I enjoy reading the Word of God. I like to start my day in His Word. When I started watching The Chosen, I really slowed down my journey through God’s Word. I enjoy just absorbing the stories and now I think about the other things going on behind the story. I see them as real people. I didn’t always think of the characters in the Bible along with their back stories. That series has really deepened my love for God’s Word.

I have lots of work to do on my heart because the noise of this world is like the thorns that can crowd out the Word. There are worries. There are temptations. There are wants. All of these can lure me away from letting God’s Word grow and take deep root in my heart.

When I recognize the mercies of God that are new each morning, I’m humbled and grateful for God’s grace and forgiveness. I know His Word and I know His call upon my life, and I still stumble and fall into sin. He is so patient with me. I don’t deserve this kind of love, but that is exactly what the Love of God really is. He is so patient with me as I cultivate the soil of my soul and let His Word into each part of me.  I want my life to produce a harvest for His Kingdom because of His Word inside the soil of my soul.

Pressing On!
