Perspective

I enjoy seeing the humanity of Jesus collide with the divinity of Jesus. He is fully human, but fully divine. That is hard to wrap my mind around. I do understand the humanity part because I am completely human. I can only understand His divinity through the Presence of God’s Spirit helping me. As I journey through His Word and study Jesus, I see these two worlds collide every now and then.

When John the Baptist, Jesus’ cousin was killed by Herod, I think the human side of Jesus began to hurt deeply. John’s disciples buried his body and then told Jesus. Check this out…

13 As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns. 14 Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. (Matthew 14:13-14 NLT)

I think Jesus’ humanity was grieving over John’s death.

I think Jesus’ divinity delivered the compassion to be about His ministry.

There are times that I lose perspective as a Christ follower, a husband, a son, a Dad, a leader, a teacher – or any other “hat” I wear. I think perspective is valuable to check any time I’m facing something that shakes me up.

This past January, my partner and close friend passed away. I have really grieved a lot since He passed. He often delivered perspective to me when I would bounce ideas off him. He had wisdom and experience that shaped his perspective.  I can still reflect on what he might say or the perspective he might give. Perspective is quite a gift when faced with a decision or several options before me.

I’m learning the Lord gives profound perspective that often rises above my ability to understand and comprehend. I listen to Him speak in His Word. I listen to His Spirit prompt me and lead me.  I need His perspective to help shape my own. I’m thankful that He will never leave me. I’m thankful for my family, friends, confidants, and mentors on earth who help give perspective. I’m even more thankful for Spirit Perspective that comes from the Lord.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
