Open Heart

Last week was Valentine’s Day here in the Unites States. There are more red hearts presented as a symbol of love. I must admit that I like participating in Valentines Day. My wife purchased me some valentine candy – she knows I love candy! It appeared that everywhere love was in the air. I think it’s interesting that we associate love with our heart instead of our head. We see the head and the brain as intellectual, but we see the heart as emotional.  I don’t disagree with that scenario, however we need our head to lead our heart.

I came across an interaction that Paul has in Philippi. It sounds like they went to a park on the Sabbath to teach and encountered a group of ladies from the city. Check this out….

13 On the Sabbath we went a little way outside the city to a riverbank, where we thought people would be meeting for prayer, and we sat down to speak with some women who had gathered there. 14 One of them was Lydia from Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth, who worshiped God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying. 15 She and her household were baptized, and she asked us to be her guests. “If you agree that I am a true believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my home.” And she urged us until we agreed. (Acts 16”:13-15 NLT)

I noted that the Lord opened her heart. I believe that the Lord works on my heart. I think my role is to be open to His leading. He can stir my heart. He can mold my heart. If I’m not cautious and careful, I will harden my heart. The Lord loves to work in my heart to do His Work and His Will.

I will often follow my heart, but I need my head to be in harmony with my heart. I want my intellect and my emotion to sing the same tune. I believe that the Lord can accomplish amazing things when my heart is surrendered to Him. He does His best work through me and often despite me. I want to listen to Him. I want to Him to move in my heart.

Pressing On!
