One Place

Hands folded in prayer over open russian Holy Bible on black backgroundI have one place that I go to daily to meet with the Lord. It’s not too far from where I sleep. When I first started making my meeting with the Lord a priority, it was hard to get to the place where I meet with Him. There is nothing sacred about the meeting place, but the moments I meet with Him are often sacred to me and to Him.

I grew up thinking that there was something really holy and sacred about the church building. I think this tradition and feeling was held over from the Old Testament. The Lord is preparing them to enter the Promised Land and He speaks to them through Moses about worship. Check this out…

4 You must not worship the Lord your God in their way. 5 But you are to seek the place the Lord your God will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name there for his dwelling. To that place you must go; 6 there bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, what you have vowed to give and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks. 7 There, in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the Lord your God has blessed you. (Deuteronomy 12:4-7 NIV)

I heard the late Keith Green say years ago, “going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than going to McDonalds will make you into a hamburger”. His quote made me think hard about where I meet with the Lord. I do love to go to church for worship gatherings, teaching, communion and fellowship. I hear the Lord speak often through the teaching, through the worship or in the intimacy of communion. I hear a lot more from Him when I take time to go to my place of connection with Him.

Paul taught in New Testament scripture that the dwelling place of the most High God is in our hearts and not in buildings made my man. This makes finding my place to connect with Him very important. I do want to stay faithful in connecting personally with Creator God to hear Him speak through His Word and allow Him to speak directly into my heart.

Pressing On!
