Old & Obedient

I realize that “old” is a relative term. Some who are old still feel young. I’ve also heard that age is just a number. There are days that I feel my age and other days I feel like I can keep up with a 20-year-old.  I’m old compared to my children, but compared to my parents, I’m young. I have followed the Lord for many years. In fact, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t follow Him.

I came across a passage that told the age of Moses and Aaron and I was a bit shocked. Check this out…..

So Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded them. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three when they made their demands to Pharaoh. (Exodus 7:6-7 NLT)

I think Moses is a bold old man who is simply following the Lord. I also find it interesting that Moses was the writer of the first five books of the Bible – so he appears brutally honest about his unwillingness to lead at first.

I think the Lord loved Moses’ heart. God knew Him. God knew Moses would follow Him. The Lord made a way to work through all of Moses’ objections because He knew His heart. I also think Moses knew himself. He knew his own limitations. I think as times went on, Moses likely spoke for himself with the people of Israel.

I want to be obedient even as I get old.

I want to follow the Lord the rest of my days.

I want to grow in my obedience as I get older.

I want my hearing from God to improve even as my physical hearing starts to fall off.

It is still tempting to ignore the Lord even though I’ve followed Him for years. I think following the Lord is one decision and one choice at a time even when I’m old.  There are consequences for old people disobeying the Lord too. I want to be known as old and obedient.

Pressing On!
