Obedience Still Matters

I find myself working in obedience every day. I am under the authority of the local sheriff, police, commissioners, governors, state law enforcement, federal law enforcement, and multiple other entities. Freedoms cost something. And I believe that the boundaries that I work in can create the freedoms that I enjoy.

I’m in obedience to the Lord. His calling to obedience includes obedience to local, state and federal authority. He calls me to love others. He calls me to serve others. He calls me to live in way I was created to live by Creator God Himself.

As I journeyed through Chronicles, it’s clear which kings honored and obeyed the Lord and which ones didn’t.   This morning, I read a short chapter about a guy named Jotham. He was obedient to the Lord. Check this out….

Jotham did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight. He did everything his father, Uzziah, had done, except that Jotham did not sin by entering the Temple of the Lord. But the people continued in their corrupt ways.

King Jotham became powerful because he was careful to live in obedience to the Lord his God. (2 Chronicles 27:2,6 NLT)

I believe that obedience is one of the most powerful signs of respect that we can show to others. I may not agree with every law in the land, but I should come under the authority and respect the authority.

I believe every single human is under authority or accountable to someone. We must live and act accordingly with respect to those we are accountable too. I heard a great quote the other day……

“If you think you are above authority, you might be too immature to be in authority”

If I want to serve in leadership, I must not see it as a position of power, but one of great responsibility and authority.  I must be obedient the law of leadership. I must see my leadership as a serving position, not a ruling position. I must be obedient first to God’s call upon my heart to love and serve others in the way He loves and serves. I may even earn the right to explain my relationship with Him in the process of being an obedient servant of the Lord.

Pressing On!
