Nice Clothes

I’m not much of a connoisseur of clothing. I like nice clothes, but I don’t buy the finest clothes money can buy. My wife is a huge help in buying my clothes because she shops the sale racks. I shop the wholesale club. I also wear “branded shirts” to work each day that display my company logo and the REALTORâ“R” on my sleeve. I want others to know where I work and the profession I’m in. These shirts do not define me, hopefully they enhance my presence. If I’m a jerk that’s all dressed up, I’m still a jerk. If on the other hand, I’m in the mode of serving others when they buy or sell a home, I’m way more than just my clothing. It’s interesting to dress down in “yard work” clothes and run to Home Depot or Lowes for a tool or a part needed to continue my work at home. I run into someone who’s only used to seeing me dressed up and it’s a shock to see me dressed like a yard man. My clothes reflect what I’m doing at the moment, but they should not define who I am.

King David pens a Psalm to his music leader again and this one reflects a thankful heart to the Lord for providing victory over his enemies and success as the king. He reminded me that the Presence of God is the best clothing. Check this out….

He asked you to preserve his life,
    and you granted his request.
The days of his life stretch on forever.
Your victory brings him great honor,
and you have clothed him with splendor and majesty.
You have endowed him with eternal blessings
and given him the joy of your presence.
For the king trusts in the Lord.
The unfailing love of the Most High will keep him from stumbling. (Psalm 21:4-7 NLT)

I grew up in church where we wore our Sunday best and I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. I think its way more important to “dress up” my heart and “dress down” my outward appearance.  I can wear blue jeans to church because I’m dressing my heart up in an expensive tuxedo. The Lord clothes me with His Presence. He gives me joy that comes from deep within. He has blessed me beyond words. His Patience with me that is expressed in Grace and Mercy is beyond measuring.

As I get dressed for work this morning, I’m thankful that the Lord has already clothed me with His Presence. The activities of my day are performed while clothed with His Presence. That’s more significant than my branded shirt representing my company and my industry. I needed this reminder.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
