New Leadership On The Way

Our country elects’ officials to terms and they have to run for reelection in order to continue in their leadership roles. This is reflected in corporate America at times in boardrooms at the highest levels of big corporations. In small businesses the founder or owner is often the head guy among many other roles.  Leadership is a skill to be learned. I do think that some people have a gift, given by God to be a good leader. I believe that any leader, whether he or she is old or young can grow in their skills and abilities.

The Lord was preparing for a new leader for His people. He started much like He started when preparing Samuel many years before. Check this out….

In those days a man named Manoah from the tribe of Dan lived in the town of Zorah. His wife was unable to become pregnant, and they had no children. The angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah’s wife and said, “Even though you have been unable to have children, you will soon become pregnant and give birth to a son. So be careful; you must not drink wine or any other alcoholic drink nor eat any forbidden food. You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and his hair must never be cut. For he will be dedicated to God as a Nazirite from birth. He will begin to rescue Israel from the Philistines.”

24 When her son was born, she named him Samson. And the Lord blessed him as he grew up. 25 And the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him while he lived in Mahaneh-dan, which is located between the towns of Zorah and Eshtaol. (Judges 13:2-5, 24-25 NLT)

I love how the Lord laid the groundwork for Samson’s entrance to the world. He began with his parents. He gave Samson’s parents instructions regarding Mom’s diet as well as the son’s diet. I think that the appearance and diet of Samson were about obedience and discipline more than anything.

I am interested in growing as a leader. I want to represent the Lord in my leadership. I feel like He used my past to prepare for my present and my future as a leader. I think good leaders have several characteristics that are significant.

Good leaders grow and learn.

Good leaders are readers.

Good leaders are great listeners.

Good leaders live by principles and discipline.

Good leaders have mentors and friends.

Good leaders are secure in themselves.

Good leaders are life-long learners.

I make it a practice to seek out good leaders and learn from them. As I learn from others, I learn more about me and what makes me tick. If I’m open to learn, I believe that the Lord is consistently preparing me for new relationships and new opportunities to introduce Him. I believe that all of us are leaders at some level in our lives. The quicker we become a disciplined follower of God, the sooner we become the leader we were meant to be.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
