Neck Problems

Neck TensionI make choices several times throughout the day. I choose what to wear, what to eat, where to go, etc.… There are other times when things happen that I had no choice about. I have no choice but to accept the weather conditions. I have no choice but to accept the market conditions. There are a bunch of situations that I have absolutely no control over. I’ve learned over the years that I can trust the Lord – He can control everything.

Moses is speaking to the people of Israel and he wants them to know that the Lord is going before them to drive out the nations of the Promised Land. He reminds them that it is not because of their righteousness that the Lord is doing this – it’s more about the wickedness of the nations. Moses reminds them of their rebellion against the Lord. Check this out…

6 Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people. (Deuteronomy 9:6 NIV)

My neck is a bit stiff this morning – I think I slept on it funny. A stiff neck is not comfortable. It’s hard to lift my head or turn it to the right or the left. A stiff neck can cause me to have to turn my whole body around to see what is beside me or behind me. I don’t want to be a stiff-necked kid before God. I want to see Him all around me. I want to notice what He’s done and is doing at all times. I want my life to be tuned in to His Presence and His Power. I want the muscles in my neck to stay strong and not stiff as I look to His Leadership in my life.

Pressing On!
