Mystery of Faith

Mystery LetterpressI do like a good mystery movie, but I do like the mystery to be solved in the last 15 minutes of the show.  I used to watch the TV show, Perry Mason, Matlock and then Monk as they would solve the mystery of “who done it”. It was usually a surprise ending. There are some real-life mysteries that are never solved or explained. I’ve never really thought of my faith as a mystery, but I’m sure that there are people who don’t understand or comprehend my faith in God.

Paul told Timothy that Christ coming to earth was a great mystery of our faith. Check this out…

16 Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith:

Christ was revealed in a human body
    and vindicated by the Spirit.
He was seen by angels
    and announced to the nations.
He was believed in throughout the world
and taken to heaven in glory. (1 Timothy 3:16 NLT)

I was introduced to Jesus when I was a kid. I remember being baptized when I was in the 3rd grade. I grew up going to church. It wasn’t until my freshman year of college that my faith became my own. I realized that up to that point, I had been living off the faith of my parents and my grandparents – my grandmother “Mammie” was a woman of deep faith. I realized at that point in my life that I believed in Jesus. I believed that He came to earth as a baby, born of a virgin. He lived a perfect life and died a criminal’s death because the Jewish leaders did not believe He was the Son of God until after His death. Some of them never accepted Him. They tried to explain Him rising from the dead. Others started putting the pieces of this amazing story together and realized that He had to be the Son of God. He healed the sick. He made blind people see. He brought people back from death. He conquered death and took the sting out of death. He brought hope to the hopeless. He brought healing to soul of anyone who believed. He was a mystery to some, but He became the answer to the mystery of eternal life. He is the Way to understand Creator God. He made a way to the God of the Universe directly. There is no longer a “go-between” needed. Jesus cleared the roadblocks and I now have direct access to God. Everyone else who puts their trust in Jesus, can have the same access. I have His Word that describes Him, reveals Him and directs my heart.

I have trusted in Him for many years now and I have felt His Presence very near to me. I can’t be persuaded to believe otherwise because of my faith and my experiences with the Lord. He is a real to me as my family and friends. I wish everyone could know Him and experience His Calming Presence and the Perspective that He’s given to me. He made it easy to get to know Him – His Word reveals Him. In prayer, I can talk to Him about everything and leave my troubles with Him. I enjoy friendship and hanging out with others who know Him and are living for Him too.  If there is a mystery to Him, it’s only because I’ve not physically met Him or shook His hand, but I’ve seen and experienced the difference He’s made because He’s been here with me. I trust Him, and I will follow Him all of my days. I’ve seen enough evidence of Him to last several lifetimes. My faith has grown deeper and wider simply by listening to Him and walking in obedience to His call upon my heart.

Pressing On!
