Leadership Endurance

I’ve always admired great leadership. Great leadership is the by-product of a leader who inspires and encourages those closest to him to join him/her in the work before them. Great leaders are surrounded by great leaders. Great leaders know about endurance. Endurance means finding strength to last when there seems to be no strength left. Endurance keeps steady during adverse conditions.

King Solomon penned a psalm that I came across this morning and this word endure came from a footnote. Check this out…

Give your love of justice to the king, O God,
and righteousness to the king’s son.
Help him judge your people in the right way;
let the poor always be treated fairly.
May the mountains yield prosperity for all,
and may the hills be fruitful.
Help him to defend the poor,
to rescue the children of the needy,
    and to crush their oppressors.
May they endure (fear you) as long as the sun shines,
as long as the moon remains in the sky.
    Yes, forever! (Psalm 72:1-5 NLT)

Enduring Leaders are going someplace that is clear to them.

Enduring Leaders are focused.

Enduring Leaders are consistent.

Enduring Leaders know the rhythms of their lives.

Enduring Leaders are incredible followers.

Enduring Leaders know how to stay in their lane.

Enduring Leaders are inspiring.

Enduring Leaders are motivating.

Enduring Leaders keep their eyes on the task at hand and the end game (goal) as well.

Solomon was a stellar leader in following the example of his dad – King David. He sought wisdom and direction from the Lord. The accolades and notoriety went to his head. His early years of being King of Israel, he was known for his profound wisdom. He oversaw incredible expansion and construction. Sometimes leaders make it all about themselves instead of seeking to serve the people they are leading. Solomon strayed from following the Lord in his later years of being king. Following the king was mandatory, but when the leader gets off point or outside of his/her lane, the followers are uninspired and wounded.

I want to be a leader who is first of all a follower of the Lord. I want to lead others by encouragement, inspiration, growing professionally and deep faith. I want to be an enduring leader who seeks the heart of God the rest of my days.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
