Large and In Charge

I’ve been around people who are very impressed with themselves. They think that “they’re all that and a bag of chips”. They act better than everyone else. It’s called pride and arrogance for sure. “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.”(Lord Acton 1834) I’ve met some great men who are not bad men. I’ve also seen others who are given lots of authority and they hold on to it lightly.

Jeremiah reminds the kings of the region and me that all power here on earth is subject to the Power of God. Check this out….

This is what the Lord said to me: “Make a yoke, and fasten it on your neck with leather straps. Then send messages to the kings of Edom, Moab, Ammon, Tyre, and Sidon through their ambassadors who have come to see King Zedekiah in Jerusalem. Give them this message for their masters: ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: With my great strength and powerful arm I made the earth and all its people and every animal. I can give these things of mine to anyone I choose. (Jeremiah 27:2-5 NLT)

This is a strong statement from the Lord. He is reminding these kings of His Ultimate Power and Leadership over the whole world. I think it is easy for people in leadership to think it’s all about them. Leadership should be more about the people being led by the leader than about the leader. Leaders should always be servant leaders.

I was reminded this morning that the Lord is always in charge. He is the Ultimate Leader and He has the final say on anything that happens in this world on this planet. He is Lord of all or He’s not Lord at all. My responsibility is to trust Him completely. My leadership is ALWAYS submissive to His Lordship over my life. This does not mean I don’t think for myself. He gives me wisdom and discernment beyond my years of experience and knowledge.  His insight is more comprehensive and powerful than a multitude of advisors. His Counselor is with me at all times and speaks into my life. My role is to listen to Him. The noise of my everyday life and the culture I live in can crowd out His voice. If I don’t hear Him, it’s not His fault – He’s clearly speaking but it’s my choice to listen and follow His direction.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
