Keep Learning & Growing

I’m not sure when I decided to be a “lifelong learner”. I do love to learn and grow. I like to read a good book about personal growth or spiritual growth. My new favorite way to learn is podcasts. I also enjoy YouTube as a great place to learn. I believe that there are more opportunities to learn and grow today than ever before in our existence. Somethings still require instruction from experts in the field. I don’t think I can learn great detail about auto mechanics, welding or all about plumbing on YouTube. I can learn some basic things in a lot of areas. I believe if I’m not learning then I’m slipping backward. I guess it could mean that I’m getting dumber instead of smarter.  It is too easy to put my mind in neutral and watch a mind-numbing show on TV. It takes self-discipline to read and grow.

Solomon was known as the wisest man who ever lived. He challenged his readers to learn and grow. Check this out….

12 Commit yourself to instruction;
listen carefully to words of knowledge.

17 Don’t envy sinners,
    but always continue to fear the Lord.
18 You will be rewarded for this;
    your hope will not be disappointed.

19 My child, listen and be wise:
    Keep your heart on the right course.  (Proverbs 23:12,17-19 NLT)

I recently started trying to work out at least 3 times per week. The holidays have pushed me off schedule a bit. I want to be self-disciplined with exercise to get as healthy as I can. I think it’s also important to be self-disciplined with my mind. I want to grow and learn each day that I live. I want my heart and mind to expand to make more room for what the Lord would like to teach me. I want to grow and expand my capacity for knowledge and wisdom. I want my heart to grow and stay on the right course with the Lord. I believe that my actions and behavior follow my heart. My learning and growing starts with the Word of God. I can grow in wisdom and understanding by reading and meditating on the Word of God. The Word became flesh in Jesus and walked the earth. He changed the course of history because of Who He is and what He came to do. I would be wise to learn more about Him and His call upon my heart.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
