It Is Finished

Got It Done Check Mark Box Finished Task Job CompleteI love to complete a job and take a look back on the “finished project”. It feels good to complete the task. After completion of one task, I’m usually moving toward another pretty quickly. I can hardly imagine life without some tasks or jobs to do. My brother, recently retired, jokes that he has only one thing to do each day and gets to figure out (with the help of his wife), just what that one thing is. I enjoy helping people buy or sell a home and getting to the closing table. It is the final step in the purchase/sell process. The attorney usually says something like: “Congratulations on the purchase of your home”. That is said after the closing is finished and it’s official.

Jesus said “It is finished” one other time when He was breathing his last breath upon the cross. The way to the Father was built, upon His death. He is now saying that everything is finished on earth. Check this out….

And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children. (Revelation 21:6-7 NLT)

I have such confidence in the Father that His plan will work just as He said. I believe that this life is preliminary step to the big life ahead – eternal life. I sometimes have a hard time wrapping my finite mind around such an infinite concept. Everything here on earth has a beginning and an ending. I can only imagine eternity. I can see it and hear about it through the pages of scripture and from the heart of God, but it’s such a mind-blowing idea.  I really want to hear Him say “Well Done!” when I arrive there too.  I sometimes wish I knew when my life would be over. I’m not sure it would be what I think it would be. I don’t know when or how my arrival to heaven will take place. I just want to live my life fully for Him and because of Him. I want to live my life in His honor. I don’t want my life to become about me – I want it to be all about Him and His call upon my life as I prepare for my ultimate arrival in heaven. With His help, I will hear “It is finished Dwayne” and He will welcome me home!

Pressing On!

Dwayne
