Invitation Ignored

I recently forgot to RSVP to an event that I was invited to and I fully intended to respond. Thankfully, there was a follow-up text from one of the hostesses. I made it to the event. My wife is usually my “social planner”, and she is great about responding promptly to invitations. I can certainly grow in that area.

Invitations can be very special – it is the act of inviting someone. I do get invited to things I don’t want to go to or be part of. If I receive an invitation in the mail, then I feel a bit different about it and it usually calls for a response. I don’t feel the same way about an invitation to a survey or something like that.

Jesus tells a story that further describes the Kingdom of Heaven and the invitations to join the Kingdom. Check this out….

1Jesus also told them other parables. He said, “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his son. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify those who were invited. But they all refused to come!

“So he sent other servants to tell them, ‘The feast has been prepared. The bulls and fattened cattle have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the banquet!’ But the guests he had invited ignored them and went their own way, one to his farm, another to his business. (Matthew 22:1-5 NLT)

I am learning to listen for invitations from the Lord. He sometimes sends them through people or circumstances if I’m carefully listening and looking. He also sends invites through His Word. He wants a deeper relationship with me. He invites me to experience this life in preparation for eternal life, which is next.

Ignore is a root word to the word “ignorant”. I don’t EVER want to ignore an invitation from God. I don’t want to be disrespectful when I’m invited to other things, but the other invites don’t’ compare to the invitation to follow Jesus. I want to accept that invite every day.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
