Immemorial

I learned a new word this morning. I thought I had found a typo in the Bible. I had to look it up on dictionary.com. This word means: “extending back beyond memory, record or knowledge”. The Psalmist uses this word to describe the Lord’s Presence and Power in the world. For as far back as we have written history, God was here. He wasn’t created as we were created. I can’t quite wrap my head around that. I believe that the Bible is true. I believe that the Bible reveals the truth. This word was a new way to say that His reign is forever. His rule spans all of time- “infinity and beyond” – from the past and into the future. Check this out….

The Lord is king! He is robed in majesty.
Indeed, the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength.
The world stands firm
    and cannot be shaken.

Your throne, O Lord, has stood from time immemorial.
You yourself are from the everlasting past.(Psalm 93:1-2 NLT)

The more I study the Lord in His Word – the more that I’m amazed by Him. The Psalmist seems to really grasp the longevity of God – if that is even possible. It’s very hard for me to think outside of time and space because that’s all I’ve ever known as a human living on planet earth. I can’t imagine someone not being born or not dying when they are old. Everything I know about has a beginning and an ending – except God. He is the exception to every rule of creation. He is The Creator of all I see and know.  I can only describe Him using human terms and human characteristics because there is no one like Him. I speak of God’s heart to describe His love and His emotions. I see this characteristic woven throughout His Word. I think He has eyes and ears to listen and see. But I haven’t physically seen Him or audibly heard His voice – or whatever sound He would make when He speaks.

I have put my faith in Someone Who transcends time and Who is not bound by space. I am convinced of His existence because I’ve seen His Work. I see the intricacies of His Creative skill in creation. I’ve felt His Presence so near when I was weighed down with a burden. He hears my prayers. He speaks to me through His Word. He is a real as the chair I’m sitting in. I believe that He created heaven for an eternal home for those who trust in Him and live for Him. I’ve been told of Him for as long as I’ve been alive. I trusted Him for myself in 1980 and I’m determined to live for Him until my life here on earth is over – whenever that is.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
