Ignoring God

As I’ve aged, I’ve noticed a bit of hearing loss. I think some of this may be normal. My hearing loss could be loud music that I’ve listened to.  I am still growing as a listener. I do work at listening to others when they speak to me. I try to be present and focused to the person who is talking to me.

I also try hard to not ignore God. He speaks to me in all sorts of different ways. I feel His prompting in my heart at times and I pay no attention to it. At other times, it’s really clear and I act upon the prompting.

Jeroboam, Solomon’s son succeeded him as king. He had a definite hearing problem with God. The Lord spoke to him through prophets and wise men, but he ignored their advice time and time again.  Check this out….

33 But even after this, Jeroboam did not turn from his evil ways. He continued to choose priests from the common people. He appointed anyone who wanted to become a priest for the pagan shrines. 34 This became a great sin and resulted in the utter destruction of Jeroboam’s dynasty from the face of the earth. (1 Kings 13:33-34 NLT)

The Lord speaks through His Word.

The Lord speaks through His people.

The Lord can speak through silence.

The Lord can speak through a storm.

The Lord can speak through a song.

The Lord can speak through a book.

The Lord can speak through a podcast. (This could become a HUGE list!)

The real question is: Am I listening to the Lord speak? Do I ignore Him when He speaks so clearly? I’m still growing and even though my physical hearing may have faded, I want my spiritual hearing to get sharper and clearer than ever before.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
