Human

I was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky to Loyde & Deloris Hicks. They raised me as their oldest son. I was one of 6 children (the first was still born). I learned how to get along with other humans in the context of family first. I went to school at a small elementary school and a relatively small high school. As long as I’ve been alive, I’ve been around humans. I’ve heard stories of babies being raised by animals. I’ve seen Tarzan movies to see how humans interact with nature.

When I began to study the Bible several years ago, I realized that humans were created with a purpose. We were designed by Creator God. We were built to bring honor and glory to our Creator. I was born to my earthly parents and I’m thankful that they told me about my purpose. As I’ve lived and studied God’s Word, I’m really clear on my purpose here on earth.

King David understood his purpose. He writes with such perspective and insight into God. He is awed by God and describes it quite well. Check this out…..

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
the flocks and the herds
and all the wild animals,
the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.

O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!(Psalm 8:3-9 NLT)

The Lord gave man, His highest creation, lots of responsibility. We are in charge of Creation and all that God has made. When I take time to think through my reason for being here, I am humbled and sometimes overwhelmed. The cool thing is that while God gave us all this responsibility, He is here with us to help us make good decisions and He also gives strength when we’re tired. He gave us special work to do, but He wired us to do and provided the resources to do the work. His Presence changed everything thing about my life. His Name is above all and His calling upon my life is the highest calling I could receive. To be human, is to be a child of Creator God and to have a purpose and a call upon my soul.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
