Hope On The Horizon

Sunset worshipI enjoy checking out the horizon especially at sunset. I love how the sky is such a beautiful tapestry of colors. I also love looking at the horizon when the sun is rising on a new day. In both instances there is reason for hope. At the end of the day there is hope for a new day. At the beginning of the day there is hope for the activities of today. Because I know the Lord, I always have hope in any situation. There are times when hope is faint and there are times when hope is bold and strong.

Foreigners were taking the people of Israel captive and they were leaving their homeland. Many of them would never return. The situation looks really bleak and then Jeremiah introduces hope on the horizon. Check this out….

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord,

“when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch,

a King who will reign wisely

and do what is just and right in the land.

In his days Judah will be saved

and Israel will live in safety.

This is the name by which he will be called:

The Lord Our Righteous Savior. (Jeremiah 23:5-6 NIV)

The “Hope On The Horizon” was Jesus! He came through the generational lineage of King David. He ushered in salvation that was quite different. He ushered in a new covenant that was built on the old covenant, but trumped it. Hope was coming but the people of Israel had no idea just what that meant to them.

There are times that my hope is limited.

I want hope for my situation with my family, job, best friend or my health.

My hope is often focused on life here on earth. I can’t see past it. As I walk through the Word, I realize that hope that involves this life is very shortsighted. My hope reaches into eternity. My hope is bigger than this life. I really want my life to honor the Creator Who made me. I want my life to honor the Author of Hope. He is the One Who put hope on the horizon for me. His hope is way bigger than my mind can manage.

At the start of today, I’m very hopeful that I can honor God in and through every situation that I face.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
