Home Where He Belongs

I am away from home this week for a few days of vacation. It has been a really fun connecting with old friends (I mean old literally and figuratively!) Our friendship goes back a long way and we always pick right up where we left off. Today is my last day and I’m connecting with my family later this evening. I’m looking forward to getting back home. I am a pretty simple person and I really like going home. The house where I live is home because my family lives there. As I get older, I realize just how important home is. I want my home to continue to be open to my family and friends. I want my home to be a place of retreat for me. I want my home to be a place where the Lord is honored. I am so thankful for my home. My heart hurts for people without a home.

I read a Psalm this morning from the descendants of Korah and the conversation is about God’s dwelling place being Jerusalem. The Lord made His dwelling with the people of Israel until Jesus came and made it possible for the Lord to dwell inside my heart. Check this out….

On the holy mountain
stands the city founded by the Lord.
He loves the city of Jerusalem
more than any other city in Israel.
O city of God,
what glorious things are said of you! (Psalm 87:1-3 NLT)

There is a rich heritage with the Lord’s people and His leading them and directing their path. He showed such great Patience and great Presence with them. I marvel at the history of Israel and how they trusted God for a season, then turned away to their own ideas. I can’t be too hard on them because I’m guilty of the same sporadic behavior on my journey with the Lord. When I realized the price of my stupidity and whimsical commitment, I was moved to welcome the Lord into my heart and trust Him completely. Check this out….

19 So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21 We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. 22 Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit. (Ephesians 2:19-22 NLT)

I need to take better care of my body – His Home. I need to make sure He always has a place to be in my heart. He belongs here  – this is His Home.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
