His Kid
One of the greatest privileges of my life has been to be a Dad. I am still in the role today although it’s shifted a good bit from when my kids were very young. Being a parent is HUGE responsibility. It seems to me that we have a different role in their lives depending on the season that they are in. When they are really small, they don’t do much except eat, poop and sleep. The parents still carefully monitor everything about the baby. As they get older, we have to “child-proof” the house because the children will explore and put everything in their mouth. As they start to school, we help with homework and understanding of the concepts they were given by their instructors. Parents usually become stupid in the eyes of their children through some of the adolescent years, but they get wise again. Parents grow to become a trusted advisor, but they never stop being parents. When the parents become grandparents, they forget all about the rational parenting skills and “spoil” the grands!
I love John’s perspective on our relationship with God as our Father and us humans as His kids. Check this out….
1See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. 2 Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. 3 And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:1-3 NLT)
As my Father, the Lord cares about everything I’m involved in.
As my Father, He wants to protect me from others.
As my Father, He wants to protect me from me.
As my Father, He wants me to learn from Him how to live, love and serve.
I look to my Heavenly Father for guidance all the time. He also gifted me with His Holy Spirit that is hard to explain, but His Presence is in me as I navigate this life. His Presence gives me a “security blanket” kind of feeling. I’m so grateful for His forgiveness, when I embarrass Him or bring harm to His name. I’m thankful that He welcomes me back home when I’ve wandered off on my own. I’m thankful that the Lord has my picture as the wallpaper on His phone!
Pressing On!
