Help Needed

I can’t begin to count the number of times that I’ve needed help. There are times I need skilled help. There are other times that I simply need another set of hands. Still other times, I’m not sure what I need, but I need something in the form of help.  The word help carries with it the idea of facilitating, giving assistance to another. Help can come in the form of physical help or mental help. To receive help is the be humble and realize that I’m not capable of doing this on my own.  As I keep seeking the Lord, I realize that He’s taught me to lean on Him for help. He’s taught me to lean on others for help. In fact, I’ve had some deep relationships formed when I’ve been helped by someone or I’ve had the privilege to help someone.

Jehoshaphat, King of Judah had just been given word that three other armies were coming to attack Judah. He was terrified and desperate. He led the people in prayer asking the Lord for help.  After they were praying, the Lord spoke to them through a regular guy standing there. Check this out….

13 As all the men of Judah stood before the Lord with their little ones, wives, and children, 14 the Spirit of the Lord came upon one of the men standing there. His name was Jahaziel son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite who was a descendant of Asaph.

15 He said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.16 Tomorrow, march out against them. You will find them coming up through the ascent of Ziz at the end of the valley that opens into the wilderness of Jeruel. 17 But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!” (2 Chronicles 20:13-17 NLT)

I love this story of rescue.

I love this story of The Lord’s help.

I’m reminded that my help comes from the Lord.  King David penned a poetic Psalm that says this quite well. Check this out…

I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth!

He will not let you stumble;
the one who watches over you will not slumber.
Indeed, he who watches over Israel
    never slumbers or sleeps.

The Lord himself watches over you!
The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.
The sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon at night.

The Lord keeps you from all harm
    and watches over your life.
The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go,
both now and forever. (Psalm 121:1-8 NLT)

I’m always needing help and the Lord is ALWAYS here to help. I’m so grateful for His Presence and His Peace. He gives me wisdom and insight when I seem to have hit a dead end. He makes a way where there seems to be no way. The Lord helps me through others. The Lord helps others through me. His very Spirit is often called the Helper.  I’m profoundly grateful the Lord today and every day. I’m thankful for His help even this morning.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
