Heir

Happy surprised manThis word is defined as someone who is legally entitled to the property of another on that person’s death. Usually when the parents both die, the children become the heirs to their property. The word, heir, is also defined as “a person who carries on a legacy of a predecessor”. I realize that I became an heir to my parents, just by being born. They have more kids, so all the kids become heirs of their estate upon their passing.  Being an heir is not really earned; it’s about being born into the family. Paul speaks to the church in Galatia about our inheritance as believers. Check this out…

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:26-29 NIV)

I love the fact that I’m an heir to the promise, just like the Apostle Paul or anyone else who believes in Jesus. I want to remain clothed in Him and honor Him with my behavior. Part of my commitment to Him includes the honor of carrying on His legacy of love, grace and forgiveness. He was so quick to forgive me – always. I need to be quick to forgive as well as practice deep love for others – just like Jesus. I’m thankful to be an heir to eternal life with Him. I don’t want to wear that title flippantly at all.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
