Healthy Fear

I’ve heard that F.E.A.R. is “False Evidence Appearing Real”!  There are moments of fear in my life that are often unfounded but very powerful.  I feel the stress of fear throughout my body. As I walk with the Lord, I’ve learned to let Him have my fear. I talk with Him about the fear I’m feeling as well as solutions to manage the situation. His Presence, when I stop and notice Him, is powerful in the face of fear!

There was an incident that happened during Paul’s third missionary journey where the seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, tried to cast out an evil spirit of a man. The evil spirit pushed back on them and said, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” The man with the evil spirit overpowered them and basically beat them up. The whole community took notice and fear sets in. Check this out….

17 The story of what happened spread quickly all through Ephesus, to Jews and Greeks alike. A solemn fear descended on the city, and the name of the Lord Jesus was greatly honored.18 Many who became believers confessed their sinful practices. 19 A number of them who had been practicing sorcery brought their incantation books and burned them at a public bonfire. The value of the books was several million dollars. 20 So the message about the Lord spread widely and had a powerful effect. (Acts 19:17-20 NLT)

I think a healthy dose of reverent fear is a good thing.

I need to remember that God is all-Powerful.

I need to remember that He can do anything but fail.

I need to remember the Power of the name of Jesus.

I need to remember the Power of His Presence in me.

The fear I have of God is dripping with respect and reverence. I talk with Him about everything. His Spirit speaks into my heart and directs my steps when I take time to listen.  As I continue my journey through His Word, I find examples of what happens when His Spirit is allowed to lead regular people. I want Him to write my story where He is the Hero of my story!

Pressing On!
