Heads-Up

I like knowing things that are going to happen before they happen. I have time to prepare and who knows, maybe I can prevent some negative things from happening. I often try to think through different scenarios in my mind of what will happen or how others will respond to certain situations or events.

Jesus gave His disciples a heads-up. I’m not sure they totally understood what He was speaking of, but He clearly told them according to Matthew’s notes. Check this out….

17 As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside privately and told them what was going to happen to him. 18 “Listen,” he said, “we’re going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die. 19 Then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day he will be raised from the dead.” (Matthew 20:17-19 NLT)

Jesus knew exactly what was coming. He told them exactly what was coming. The news was likely stunning to them. They couldn’t really change any part of it. I think Jesus was preparing them.

I believe that the Holy Spirit can give me a heads-up even today on things coming my way. He can speak into my heart. He reminds me of Who He is. He calms my soul.

The Word of God gives a heads-up that this world we live in is not forever. There is eternal life with God, our Creator.  I sometimes live like this world is all there is, but I should live every day like this life is a “dress rehearsal” for the eternal life that is to come.  I needed reminding today that this life is temporary and brief.

Pressing On!
