Heads-Up

I like knowing things that are going to happen before they happen. I have time to prepare and who knows, maybe I can prevent some negative things from happening. I often try to think through different scenarios in my mind of what will happen or how others will respond to certain situations or events.

Jesus gave His disciples a heads-up. I’m not sure they totally understood what He was speaking of, but He clearly told them according to Matthew’s notes. Check this out….

¹⁷ As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside privately and told them what was going to happen to him. ¹⁸ “Listen,” he said, “we’re going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die. ¹⁹ Then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day he will be raised from the dead.” (Matthew 20:17-19 NLT)

Jesus knew exactly what was coming. He told them exactly what was coming. The news was likely stunning to them. They couldn’t really change any part of it. I think Jesus was preparing them.

I believe that the Holy Spirit can give me a heads-up even today on things coming my way. He can speak into my heart. He reminds me of Who He is. He calms my soul.

The Word of God gives a heads-up that this world we live in is not forever. There is eternal life with God, our Creator.  I sometimes live like this world is all there is, but I should live every day like this life is a “dress rehearsal” for the eternal life that is to come.  I needed reminding today that this life is temporary and brief.
