Heads Up

watch your stepI’m not really thinking about a coin that has been flipped and landed on heads. I’m talking about advanced notice or warning of something that is going to happen. When I’m meandering through life and something is about to happen that someone else knows about, I definitely appreciate a “heads-up”. As a parent, I’ve tried to give my kids a “heads-up” of things that I see coming because of my experience. Some of my best lessons in life came at great personal expense with no advance notice.

Paul is giving Timothy a “heads-up” about some of the latter days. The behavior he describes sound like he’s living in the United States. He speaks of selfish, reckless and ungrateful people. He then offers a “heads-up” with some definite directions attached. Check this out…

They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

14 But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. 15 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. (2 Timothy 3:5,14-17 NLT)

I believe that the Word of God can give me a “heads-up”, even though it was written hundreds of years before. I also believe that the Holy Spirit living in me can give me pre-emptive warning of impending danger or a misstep.

I’ve heard it said that “everyone wants to go to heaven, but no one wants to die to get there”. I want to be faithful to the Lord every day. It takes self-discipline and work. Being faithful to the Lord requires planning and organizing. I believe my time with the Lord in the morning in His Word is some of the most valuable work I will do the rest of the day. This preparation time gives me depth of insight and wisdom that only the Lord can give. I’m not stronger or more powerful than the average person. I’m not better than anyone because I’ve been with the Lord. I do believe that He has made me better than I would be without Him. He continues to build me as one of His kids. He continues to pour into my heart and make me a better man, a better husband, Dad, friend, REALTOR.  The insight or advanced notice that I have from the Lord is critical to my every day, meandering, regular life. Today I am seeking His heart while reading His Word. I’m gathering insight from Him that I can use today as well as in the future until the day He calls me home.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
