Harvest Generosity

One of my favorite holidays is less than a week away. Thanksgiving originally began when the pilgrims who survived the first year in a new country with the help of some Native Americans. They spent like four days celebrating the harvest with Thanksgiving. It was a joyful time of thankfulness for the blessings that came from God in the way of food.

I believe that gratitude should be very high on my list each day. Even in the hardest days, I can find something to be thankful for. No matter how bad things are in my life, there is someone else who has it much worse.

The Lord also reminds His people about being generous at harvest time. Not only should we be grateful; we should also be generous. There are people who are hungry and would love to have simply the leftovers or scraps from our tables. The Lord advised generosity at harvest time. Check this out…..

22 “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the Lord your God.’” (Leviticus 23:22 NLT)

Generosity is a character trait of God that He would love to see in all of us. Generosity comes from a Spirit led heart. Generosity is more than being generous with our money – it’s being generous with our lives as well. I think we can show we care by how we spend our time. The Lord is so generous with me and He wants me to be generous to others because of that. He actually wants me to be generous because when I’m generous, I’m representing Him!

I believe that generosity is a virtue that comes from gratitude, the parent of all virtues.  If I’m truly grateful, I realize that I’m not the one totally responsible for my success. If I’m truly grateful, I can be generous.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
