Hard Hearts

I remember a neighbor of ours when I was very young having a disease called “hardening of the arteries”. She was a widow who appeared to have it all together. She had a nice home that she cared for. She was kind and friendly. She started deteriorating as the disease brought devastation to her body. Today, we have so many more tests and we can manage cholesterol that is a big cause of “hardening of the arteries”.

Jesus was challenged by the Pharisees about Moses’ teaching about divorce. They religious leaders tried to trap Him. Check this out…

Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question: “Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife?”

Jesus answered them with a question: “What did Moses say in the law about divorce?”

“Well, he permitted it,” they replied. “He said a man can give his wife a written notice of divorce and send her away.”

But Jesus responded, “He wrote this commandment only as a concession to your hard heartsBut ‘God made them male and female’ from the beginning of creation.‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.” (Mark 10:2-9 NLT)

I need some spiritual cholesterol medicine to stop the formation of plague inside the walls of my heart. My heart is hard at times and hard for the Lord to shape and mold.

I want the Holy Spirit of God to invade my life and my thoughts and make them holy and pleasing to God.  I am easily distracted by things of this world. I need the Lord’s help staying focused on His Word and His call upon my life. I need to stop manipulating the Word of God to say what I want to say. I need to be a keen listener to His Spirit’s counsel. I want the Lord to make and mold my heart into the image of His heart. I want to love like He loves. I want to live according to His will and His way.

Pressing On!
