Guidance

I have become a bit too dependent upon a GPC app on my phone to give me turn-by-turn directions.  I don’t have to think, I just listen and turn when it says turn. In some ways this has taken the place of reading a map to learn where I’m going and where I’ll be in relationship to where I am now.  The Lord and my wife will affirm that I can be a bit hard-headed and stubborn when it comes to following directions, but for the most part I’ve learned my lesson.

The Wise men followed the directions of a star to find Jesus. The Lord spoke to them in a dream. The Lord also spoke to Joseph in a dream to give him directions. Check this out…

After this interview the wise men went their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! 11 They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

12 When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod. (Matthew 2:9-12 NLT)

I believe the Lord puts people in our lives to give us guidance and wisdom. I can still hear the words of my parents and grandparents as they gave me guidance for so many facets of life. My partner of over ten years in real estate was wise and experienced and shared with me tons of wisdom and insight and I miss him today.  I want to be present and carefully listen to the wisdom and counsel of others, but I also want to be keenly aware of what the Lord is telling me. My wife will come home from work with a story, and she starts it off by saying: “They say”. I usually ask her “Who is they?”  I believe that I must be careful who and where my guidance comes from.

I will keep seeking the Lord’s guidance in EVERY area of my life. His guidance for me far outweighs any other counsel. He is the GPS of my very life!

Pressing On!

Dwayne
