Grow Grow Grow

baby under blanketI have had times growth. It’s crazy how fast kids seem to grow. My grandchildren are growing so fast. When babies are born, we count their age in months. This continues until they are somewhere around 24 months (aka 2 Years). I’m sort of glad we don’t keep up with age that way. I’m 677 months old by that calculation. I go to a Doc locally who puts on the chart the years and months (56 years 5 months). It seems like since I was about 18 years old, I started growing “out” instead of “up”.  Growing is a good thing. In fact – if we’re not growing, we’re actually dying. It sounds a bit morbid that we are all dying at some level. I’m speaking in the physical sense. I’m as tall as I’ll ever be, in fact, some days I feel like I’ve shrunk a bit. My kids are all pretty much grown to the height that they will be the rest of their lives, but the grands still have a lot of growth yet.

In regard to mental growth and capacity – I have grown a lot over the past several years and I’m still on a quest to grow. I want to grow in my understanding of who God is and I want to grow in knowing His heart. It is a daily journey to keep growing spiritually and mentally. I see reading and listening to others speak into my life as a critical part of my grown. I want to grow in the areas Peter challenges believers. Check this out….

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control,and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.

The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.(2 Peter 1:3-9 NLT)

I want to keep growing in my faith. I want my faith to become more productive and to grow deeper and deeper. I want my faith to shine into every corner of my life. I want to grow as a husband to my wife. I want to grow as Dad to my kids (and Pop to my Grands). I also want to grow in character and depth of understanding others. I want to grow in my craft as a service provider to people who need to sell or purchase a home.

Growing is a minute by minute; hour by hour; day by day; year by year process. I want to be steady and consistent in my pursuit of growth.  This passage in 2 Peter really challenges and blesses my in my pursuit.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
