Greedy

\

I do like to have nice things. I also like having money in savings for a rainy day, and we have had lots of rain here in Georgia. Greed is having an excessive desire, especially for wealth or possessions. I have met greedy people before. They want what they want, when they want it. They are not really concerned about who they step over or hurt in the process of getting what they want. They want to destroy others in getting what they want. I believe greedy people are disgusting to the Lord. He is a giver. He is the opposite of greedy – GENEROUS.

King Solomon spoke about the greedy in Proverb form.  Check this out….

22 Greedy people try to get rich quick
    but don’t realize they’re headed for poverty.

25 Greed causes fighting;
    trusting the Lord leads to prosperity.

26 Those who trust their own insight are foolish,
    but anyone who walks in wisdom is safe.(Proverbs 28:22,25-26 NLT)

I want to err on the side of generosity instead of greed. I am not afraid to work hard to provide for my family and be generous toward others. I want to walk in wisdom and discernment. I know that there are those who are poor and beggars. That is often all they know. I would rather provide a person work for pay than to simply give them what I have. I know that there are people in dire need of immediate financial help due to an illness or disease and that is a different scenario. I want to help the helpless. I don’t want to enable beggars to not work to improve their situation. I remember when I was on staff at a church, a person would come by the office asking for help. We could call a couple of other churches and find out that they had been there too. They were taking advantage of the church in my opinion.

I believe it’s wise to work.

I believe it’s wise to save.

I believe it’s wise to invest.

I believe it’s wise to be generous and give.

I believe the way I handle money reflects generosity or greed. These are both a matter of my heart. The money itself is not bad, it’s my management of it that matters most.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
