Gold Apples

gold apple on a white plate isolated on white backgroundI learned years ago that the power of the tongue is really hard to measure. The person speaking the words gives them weight as well. If a trusted friend or confidant speaks into my life, I’m more inclined to listen closely. I’ve also started taking the time and try to weigh my words before I speak them. I don’t want my words to hurt; I want them to heal.  I love this short proverb from Solomon. Check this out…

11 The right word spoken at the right time

is as beautiful as gold apples in a silver bowl.
12 A wise warning to someone who will listen

is as valuable as gold earrings or fine gold jewelry. (Proverbs 25:11-12 NCV)

I also know the value of a well-timed word. There are times when I needed to hear a word of rebuke, encouragement or inspiration and it the words came at just the right time. I also needed to become a source of a well-timed word. I need to be patient at times to let the opportunity unfold. It doesn’t do any good to offer advice to someone who doesn’t want it. I want to have the courage to use my words wisely and speak them at well-timed intervals. I also want my words to ALWAYS match up with my actions. I woke up with a song by ThEnvoy on my mind before reading this passage. Check this out…

The Ones That Speak
All we have are the choices we make
the decisions that take hold
of life we cannot mold to a fork in the road
where words and actions meet.

This war we are fighting of our souls to bear
The victory from our side has been declared
But our swords are drawn our shields are gripped the fights not done
it wages in our hearts

Because when silence is golden and talk is cheap
the actions we take are the ones that speak

Well you’ve got your choices and I’ve got mine
But what we make of them is the greatest divide
Of who we are and who we’ll be
The pulse rate of our veins

The choice to love; the choice to hate
The choice to give; the choice to take
The choice to numb; the choice to feel
The choice to hurt; the choice to heal
