God Is Good
I remember first hearing the phrase: “God is good, all the time and all the time, God is good”. I believe that God is good even when things that are happening in my life are not good. I don’t believe that my life is always good, but the God I serve is ALWAYS good. I should never make the Goodness of God dependent upon everything in my life being good. I don’t understand all the ways of God. I don’t understand why sometimes He moves and changes things and at other times He chooses not to save the person I asked Him to save. When I can understand or trace His hand, I totally trust His heart. The more I learn about the Lord, the more I see His compassion and love for others as well as me.
I came across a phrase from Moses that spoke to me about this very topic. Moses was speaking to the Israelites before they were about to enter the land God had promised them. Check this out….
6 You must recognize that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land because you are good, for you are not—you are a stubborn people. (Deuteronomy 9:6 NLT)
I have to confess that I can be stubborn for sure. (Somewhere, I’m hearing my wife say “Amen”!) I’m not proud of my stubbornness and I’m working on it. I do want to hear from the Lord before I make big moves. I sometimes want to hear from Him before I make little moves. He often looks past my stubbornness and my stupidity and blesses me anyway. He somehow blesses others despite of me and my struggle with sin.
I could spend hours giving example after example of how the Lord has blessed me. I am still growing in gratitude toward Him for the ways He has blessed and continues to bless me. I don’t deserve His love, but He gives His love anyway. He is so good.
I’m singing this song that was released just over a year ago. I want to sing it when life throws me a curve ball. I want to sing it in my pain and grief.
