Goals

Smart goal setting colorful letters on grungy blackboardI have had goals for many years. I make plans and set short-term goals all the time. I was challenged yesterday to set 10-day goals, 10-month goals and 5-year goals. The premise is that if you can’t set 10-day goals and work toward them, then it’s useless to do the others. Goal setting is a skill that can be learned. It is not easy, but it is simple. The other issue that I’ve had for many years is that I’ve never written my goals down. This makes a huge difference. Writing things down makes them more real and “concrete”. Written goals are much more attainable because I can see them. This has been a game-changer for me. My wife and I have goals in the next five years that are pretty robust, but attainable. I heard a quote recently “if you don’t set written goals, you’ll hit them with amazing accuracy”!

Paul talks plainly to the Christ followers at Thessalonica. He challenges them to love and serve others as a part of their commitment to the Lord. He wants them to keep growing and expanding their love for others. Check this out….

But we don’t need to write to you about the importance of loving each other, for God himself has taught you to love one another. 10 Indeed, you already show your love for all the believers throughout Macedonia. Even so, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you to love them even more.

11 Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. 12 Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others. (1 Thessalonians 4:9-12 NLT)

I have recently set goals in the five areas of my life: 1. Spiritual 2. Family 3. Business 4. Financial 5. Personal. The number one goal for me come from my journey with the Lord. I want to know Him more deeply. I want His Spirit to have a home inside my heart and then all my other life goals come out of that. If I succeed at the other goals first, I might have a good life, but I would not have a good future after this life is over. I want my life to operate out my journey with the Lord. He helps me keep on track and keep proper perspective on the other areas. It all began because He loved me first and that changed everything for me. I love the Lord and my main life goal is to honor Him with my life above else.

Pressing On!
