Give Back

I look back over my personal life and my work life and there are so many people who have helped me along the journey. I would easily loose count, but I think it’s important to reflect. Many of the people who helped me were a bit older and wiser and much more experienced than I was at the time. I now have the opportunity to give back by helping others along the way. I remember my Aunt who helped me through college, she challenged me to help others along the way. There were and are people who speak into my life on a personal level. There were people who came along side me in my full-time ministry years. There have been people are there still are people who are super helpful to me in my REALTOR years.

The people of Israel are really close to going into the land God promised them. The Midianites were in the crosshairs of God’s people. They were first on the list of many pagan nations being driven out of the land God promised. So, the Lord directed just 1000 men from each tribe to go take care of business. They defeated the Midianites completely. They brought back lots of plunder from the battle and they gave the Lord a portion and they divided it among the fighting men and the people. Some of them wanted to give back more. Check this out…

48 Then all the generals and captains came to Moses 49 and said, “We, your servants, have accounted for all the men who went out to battle under our command; not one of us is missing! 50 So we are presenting the items of gold we captured as an offering to the Lord from our share of the plunder—armbands, bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces. This will purify our lives before the Lord and make us right with him.”

54 So Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted the gifts from the generals and captains and brought the gold to the Tabernacle as a reminder to the Lord that the people of Israel belong to him. (Numbers 31:48-50, 54 NLT)

I think giving back is humbly recognizing that I am not solely responsible for my success. I have had a lot of help along the way.

Giving back is a sign of gratitude.

Giving back is a sign of humility.

Giving back is a sign of awareness.

Giving back is always appropriate.

I can never give back enough to those who have helped me along the way. I have decided to give back to others from my current place in life as a calling of sorts. I believe this type of giving is blessed and approved by the Lord.

Pressing On!
